BYC is committed to maintaining academic standards and integrity beyond reproach, and expects its students to do likewise. While BYC’s policies regarding many of these standards are specified below, BYC nonetheless expects BYC instructors, administrators, staff, and students to observe all US and State of Florida laws pertaining to their interactions with BYC and each other. BYC also expects BYC instructors, administrators, staff, and students to refrain from any acts of moral turpitude in their capacity as BYC instructors, administrators, staff, and students that reflect negatively upon BYC or damage BYC’s reputation for integrity as an academic institution.
GRADING SYSTEM
The system of evaluation is the standard US grading system:

For students in non-degree certificate and undergraduate degree programs, the minimum passing grade for each course is 70% (0.5). For students in graduate degree programs, the minimum passing grade for each course is 79% (2.0).
If a student fails a course, they may retake it with a different instructor at 50% of the normal course tuition. Their final grade for the course will be the grade they earned the last time they took the same course. If a student fails a course twice, they will not be allowed to retake it without special permission from the BYC Dean.
EXAMS
One final exam is required for each course. This final exam is composed of two parts: 1) a time-limited written test comprised of multiple-choice questions (accessed via a special connection provided within the restricted area of the BYC website); and 2) an oral examination conducted directly by the instructor (via the most practical means of voice communications).
Students must schedule exam session appointments for both parts of the final exam with their course instructor at mutually agreeable dates and times. This arrangement allows students to take their final exam in the comfort of their own home, office, or wherever else they choose that is most convenient for them. Students should try to schedule their appointments for the two parts of the final exam at least two (2) weeks in advance and within the duration period permitted for the course.
The student’s grade for the final exam is the combination of the grade earned for both the written and oral parts. Students who fail the final exam for a course may request the opportunity to take it again. If they retake the exam (that is, with a different set of questions, of course), they will receive the grade they earned the last time they took the final exam for the course. If they fail the final exam for a course twice, then they will have failed the course.
BYC’s methods of examination are designed to prevent cheating as much as possible. For instance, time-limited access to the written part of the exam as well as the direct open-ended interaction with the instructor for the oral part of the exam are exam design features especially intended to prevent cheating. Nonetheless, BYC expects its students to comply voluntarily with the standard academic honor system that includes no reliance upon others for exam answers.
DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
For violations of any of BYC’s Academic Standards or instances of moral turpitude in relation to their BYC involvement, BYC students will be given a written reprimand that will be placed in their permanent student file. Except for cases of egregious violations or illegal activity, students will be allowed two such written reprimands before further disciplinary action may be taken against them.
Examples of violations of BYC Academic Standards include:
Examples of instances of moral turpitude include:
- Obscene or harassing communications
- Sexual harassment
- Discrimination based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, or marital status
WARNINGS
After two written reprimands, any student that warrants further disciplinary action will be given a written warning of further disciplinary action.
SUSPENSION
After a written warning of further disciplinary action, any student that warrants further disciplinary action will be officially suspended from enrollment in their educational program until such time that the BYC President and Dean are both satisfied that the student would not warrant further disciplinary action if their enrollment were to be reactivated.
EXPULSION
A student may be expelled from BYC for any of the following reasons:
-
BYC’s President and Dean have not rescinded the student’s suspension after one (1) year
-
BYC’s President and Dean conclude that a student’s violation of BYC’s Academic Standards or instance of moral turpitude is so egregious that immediate expulsion from enrollment at BYC is warranted
-
Indictment or conviction for illegal activity
APPEALS
BYC students may appeal any of the above disciplinary actions by recourse to the BYC procedures for handling student complaints outlined in the Complaints subsection of the Student Services section.
